Residents of Lark soon will have a lighted tennis court for night play if plans, being formed by the Lark Lions club and the Salt Lake county recreational department, are able to be carried out in the near future. Spotlighting UTAH J Sulphuric Acid Plant at Garfield At a cost of $6,800,000 Ameri-can Smelting and Refining com-pany will construct at Garfield, Utah, a Sulphuric Acid plant with a capacity of 500 tons per day which will employ seventy-fiv- e men. Work Starts on Pipe Line The million dollar pipe laying project now under way will, when completed, transport oil from Rangely field, just over the Utah line in Colorado, to the new Standard Oil company refinery in North Salt Lake. The 180 mile pipe line is being laid by two different crews one working west of Rangely and the other east of Salt Lake City. Eight and ten inch pipe is being used. The project will be completed in Oc-tober. Copper Refinery Planned Still in the blueprint stage is a twelve million dollar construction job for a copper refinery planned by Kennecott Copper Corp. This plant when completed will em-ploy between 400 and 1000 men. As a preliminary step, an anode plant to further refine copper for use in the ncw'plant is underway. The finished products of these plants will make possible the lo-cation in Utah of copper fabri- - eating plants. These plants will have a favorable advantage over eastern sellers because of savings in freight costs. Drying Kiln Located In Midvale A drying kiln capable of dry-ing 30,000 feet of lumber each 72 hours is- - being constructed at Midvale. The timber is first treat-- ; ed with live steam and then with hot air circulated by large fans. This process dries the lumber to the desired condition for mill work. Maraschino Cherry New Utah Industry A new industry processing of Utah cherries tor maraschino cherries was started this year by two large fruit companies one from California and the other from Oregon. Several thousand tons of maraschino processed cherries will be shipped from northern Utah this year during the cherry season just closing. The cherries are treated in a brine solution, sulphur dioxide and lime, which removes the col-or and sugar and hardens the fruit. The cherries are then ship- - ped to the main plants of thei companies where they are arti- -' ficially colored and sweetened. Fire Fighting Equipment Company Establishes Utah Offices Encouragement offered by the Utah Department of Publicity and Industrial Development to out of state industry to open branch offices in Utah netted re-sults this month with the open-ing of a branch office in Salt Lake City by the American Elk-hart company, a division of the American Fire Equipment com-pany operating in major west coast cities.
