We try to sibility schools Concerns over proposed housing developments in the area, as well as annexation, prompted action during a monthly session of the Taylors-ville-Bennio- n Com- munity Council here Tuesday night. Clayne Ricks, County Planning Director, informed members of the development pattern. A third development he discussed was that of Merrill-Keir- s 110 units at 3900 South and 700 West. Originally, Ricks said, it was listed as housing for handicapped. However, only 10 percent would be in that category and basically the development e would be housing. The planning director discussed density, internal traffic and possible need for a public street, noting this plan will be given careful consideration. Garren Perkins, a resident of the area to be affected by the developments, voiced concerns of people in his council that three developments are under consideration in the Taylorsville area. He said that Prowswood has gained approval to build 336 units at 4055 So. 1300 West. He said the rental units will be established as an adult community. Prowswood will be required to construct a road at 1300 West from 4200 South to 3900 South, he assured the group. Still under consideration by the Planning Commission is American Developments proposed 82 units at 4070 So. 1300 West. He told the assemblage, You dont need to worry about all these things youve been discussing, Murray is going to annex all of you anyway. Murray incorporates one lot at a time, taking commercial properties so it can get their taxes. Salt Lake City annexed the Brickyard by taking a long, thin strip of property leading to it, so it could get the taxes from the new mall there. The only way to stop them is to incorporate the rest of the county, was his conclusion. Mrs. Turner offered information on bills going through the State Legislature that are concerned with county incorporation. The common sense that follows is that the Legislature change the 24 mill minimum law to a lower figure, which is probably what will happen, but will bring up a whole new area of involvements. As you can see, the school finance formula is quite complex, especially as it relates to local property taxes and the various county assessments, but it is also shown that equalization in property tax assessments among the PG PG RICHARD dMU 1 R Lorenzo, Filled entity would have to bring their mill levy down to a figure that would generate relatively the same tax dollars as it formerly did. But the school situation is much different. The school levy is usually about 65 percent of each total county levy, with the county, city and the special district making up the additional 35 percent. The couty levy can be factored fairly simply by decreasing mills, but state law mandates that schools levy a minimum of 24 mills. The main reason for this minimum levy is to guarantee that no school district relies on the state in an abusive manner, therefore requiring (C-2- Inc.); - Commercial zoning by Wilfred Bruschke on 6.5 acres at 5530 W. 3500 Clint CostiuoocG II Bruce, West R MY BODY GUARD STIll CRAZY EE.
