' Parson'' Davies of Chicago, the patron of legitimate spoils and an ad-mirer of the manly art of self defense, Is at tho Walker house, lie is touring the famous pugilist. Jack Ashtou, about tho country, and this evening tho gamey man will have a ten round go at the rooms of the Golden Gato Ath-letic club with mi iiukiiou u. From here hero ho goes lo Ogdcn, where he gives au exhibition Monday night, and Wed-nesday night at Denver ho w ill face John Woods of that place, who recently defeated Hates, the pet of Montana. Three ounce gloves will bo used, and six rounds will bo fought, lioth men are in prime condition, and as the go is for blood a hot battle is looked for, About July 2nd, Ashton is to fco many of the best pugilists of tho country at Mattery D, Chicago, after which ho will go to New York with the ' Parson'' and ne-gotiate with a good many of "the pun' ' who think they cau trim him. Mr. Davies has contracted to tour Kvau Lewis, tho world's champion wrestler, and mot her equally as prominent an athlete. They w ill be in Salt Lake City, bound for Sau Fran-cisco, between the til h and l'Jlh of July, and will stop over hero for a day mid a night. Moreover, ho is young, supple and has a long reach, w hich are advantages that La lllanehe does not possess. Mitchell has whipped several men, notably Sailor Itrowii and 5ood Keenati. Ho is a slow, careful, cautious lighter, and is not easily rat-tled." " McAuliffo and Slavin will surely have a go," replied Mr, Davies, when questioned concern-ing ' the big follow. " MeAiiliffi! is now in England and the details of the mutch will bo soon arranged. 1 have never seen McAuliffo light, and therefore would not like to pass Judg-ment on tho result. 1 have seen Slavin aud ho is very clever, but it must bo re-membered that McAuliffe is voting and active, only 21 years of age, is 6 feet 4 inches in holghth, and lights at 2iW pounds, which i 10 pound heavier than Slavin. "Kilrain's excuse after being bested by Corbett that ho was not in condition was a poor one," chirped the Parson evincing just the least signs of disgust. There is too much of this not being in condition faking going ou among pugi-lists. If they are not in condition they should not go into tho ring, ami it C'orlsftt's powers for a man he has vanquished to hide behind Urn old chestnut of not being in condition. Corbett i a good hitter, young and stout, and iu a year from now will give a good account of himself." "That's like working out tlieoigin clover puzle," laughingly said Mr. Davies, when questioned as to the prob-abilities of another meeting in the ring between Kilrain aud .Sullivan. "I don't thiuk they will ever come together again," he remarked, for Sullivan has done him once and tliTo are others who are anxious to meet the big fellow. Jackson and i McAulifle particularly. Jackson is more th:in willing to meet Sullivan, and ' has conceded to Sullivan's every exac-tion in the fight for the f.'O.OOO purse offered by the California Athletic club. The Bfigro concedes the whole purse to tho winner, and is waiting patiently for the result of Sullivan's trial which U set for Juno 23." ! "What ort of a fight will it be if the two giants mKit?"
