Show OAK CITY NEWS We are havng our share of cold weather along with the rest of the country, but in a slightly milder form. The lowest temperature recorded re-corded was 18 degress below. This is said by old-timers to be the coldest since what Is known as "cold Friday" about thirty-nine years ago. One benefecial result of the cold weather is a bountiful harvest of Ice which we failed to get last winter. Joseph S. Anderson narrowly escaped es-caped serious Injury last week. While standing by his kitchen stove the frozen fro-zen water Jacket exploded, wrecking the stove, and sending one of the Has into the ceiling, puncturing a washbasin, wash-basin, and blowing the window lights out. Mr. Anderson was covered with soot and ashes. The story might have been different had the stove boen a cast iron one Instead of steel. Mr. Martin Lewis, formerly of Delta, Del-ta, has purchased a home here. We are glad to welcome Mr. Lewis and family to our community. a Charles Trimble was given a farewell fare-well party here prior to his departure for the Eastern States Mission. The Oak CiyBasketball team met defeat last week at the hands of the Loamlngton Skinners at the latter's hall but the goats hope to return the compliment when the return game ir played. Mr. L.i Fonte of the Sevier River Land and Water Co. held a meeting recently with the owners of farmf under his company's project. He sayc our fame has spread to Los Angele? where a prominent man (please permit per-mit us to do a little boasting) told him if he hadn't tasted Oak City peaches he surely had missed a treat for most peaches tasted like potatoes In comparison. We. have a few cases of swelled head at present, but not from the above mentioned cause; It is from what Is called mumps. |
