development work planned for the summer and fall has encouraged merchants in the various towns to lay in large supplies and there is every reason to believe that a prosperous season is ahead the hecla mine has opened with men after a shutdown shut down of almost five months the last chance mine at wardner is operating with men and the hunter and alameda mines are increasing their forces more afore men are being put on at the standard mammoth mine many of the smaller prospects are being started again after months of inactivity the reindeer is driving a 2800 foot tunnel john H has the contract for doing the work for the copper king is to drive a tunnel of more than feet to tap its ore body at great depth it is estimated the work will cost the snowstorm at marsden is running full blast and employs men and ships nearly tons of ore per day it is reported that the morning mine at mullan will start in a few days and it will employ men the charles dickens mill near wardner is completed and it will be started in operation at once ore is now being taken out and stacked up ready for treatment it employs men the sampling works of the federal mining and smelting smelling Sm elting company near wallace is running full force again this plant was closed several months last winter the rex mine has resumed operations with three shifts F C bailey who has been handling the property since the retirement of B M francis announces that J P keane will be put in charge of the mine and work will be begun on sinking the to the foot level where it will be necessary to crosscut 50 feet to tap the vein it is planned to drift feet to the vein and do all on this level the present level will be abandoned as working ground the same work would have to be done again on the lower levels it will take four months to reach the foot level and perhaps two more to do the drifting necessary before the mill is again put in operation the i shaft will be a double compartment the mine is in much better
