Show Sugar House's New Streets Will Open Fri., Sept, 15 S. II. Chamber Notes Opening of Wilmington, Simpson and 27th So. Streets by Sept. 15 Big news for southeasterners came out of the office of the city engineer this week with the announcement that 27th South, the Wilmington Avenue ramp, and Simpson Avenue will all be opened for traffic by Friday, Sept. 15. Roy W. McLeese, city engineer, announced that barring bad weather, the streets would be completed and ready for traffic by that date. Heavily traveled 27th South has been torn up the latter half of the summer from Highland Drive to 17th East for major repairs. The Wilmington Avenue ramp tfor many years a dream of Sugar House business people will become a reality when grading and surfacing are completed so that cars may gain access to Sugar House via 13th East and Wilmington, and also find exit there. It is anticipated that the new ( street will relieve some congestion conges-tion on 21st South. Simpson Avenue, which has not been in use ifor some time between Highland Drive and 13th East, will be straightened, graded and given a gravel surface sur-face (for the present), and will afford another entrance and exit street to and from Sugar House. Meanwhile, Sugar House Chamber of Commerce officials are planning a celebration to "christen" the new streets. It is anticipated that it will take place the evening of Friday, Sept. 15, according to A. W. "Mickey" Hart, chamber president. presi-dent. However, he said, final plans will be announced within a few days. |
