Show Funeral Held For Pioneer Woman Solemn funeral services were held j in Gunnison last Monday afternoon for Mrs. Anna Larson and never in I the history of this city was more profound pro-found respect paid to one who has I given up life on this earth. The chapel room of the Relief Society I hall was crowded to overflowing by friends who had gathered to pay the last respects to one who was near and dear to all who knew her. Anna Larson, wife Of John Larson and perhaps one of the best known women of southern Utah, died at her home Thursday evening of last week. She had been ill but a short time and her advanced age, she being past 78, is given as the cause of death. She died peacefully and was surrounded sur-rounded by the sorrowing husband and all her children. Anna Larson was born in Malting, Sweden, in 1S43, and in the year 18 G 9 she came to Utah. Two years later, 1871, she came to Gunnison, and has resided here continuously for the past fifty-two years. The deceased de-ceased had the distinction of having been among the first to cross the ocean in tho steam vessels and she also came across the plains on the first steam cars. The emigrants that preceded her party came by ox teams. She joined the L. D. S. church at Upsala, Sweden in the early 60's and has been a faithful and ardent member all her life. Throughout her life she was known for her loving lov-ing and kind disposition and a faithful faith-ful wife, and she was always devoted to her children. Mrs. Larson is survived Jay her husband. John Larson, one daughter, Mrs. Lillian Myrup of Bountiful; and two sons, John A. Larson of Salt Lake City and Arthur Larson of Gunnison. Twenty-four grandchildren grandchil-dren also survive the deceased. Services for Mrs. Larson last Monday afternoon were impressive. A selected choir sang several selections, selec-tions, among them being "O My Father" "Sometime We'll Understand" Under-stand" and '"Beautiful Zion Built Above," and E. L. Swalberg sang "No Night There," as a solo. A splendid tribute was paid to Mrs. Larson by the two speakers, Joseph Christensen and H. A. Christensen. Biographical sketches of the good and Christian life she had led, the kindness to the needy, was vividly portrayed by the speakers and strong emphasis was made of the true and Toving wife and mother she had always al-ways been. A profusion of beautiful floral offerings of-ferings were made by kind and warm friends. Following the services serv-ices at the chapel the remains were taken to the city cemetery, where dual interment was held. Those from outside points attending attend-ing the funeral services were Mrs. A. M. Myrtip, a daughter, and Mr. Myrup of Bountiful, Mr. and Mrs. John A. Larson' and the Misses Maud and.Lavaughn Larson of Salt Lake City W. E. Bown and Byron and Leland Bown of Provo. |
