Show Tonnage Increased 'By Use of Fertilizer Following a survey of the different differ-ent beet fields where superphosphate was used during the past growing season in the territory operated by the Gunnison Sugar company, it haa been found that wonderful results have been obtained in the increased tonnage and sugar content. Some 300 acres were selected throughout Sanpete San-pete and Sevier counties for the experimentation ex-perimentation of the uses of the superphosphates, su-perphosphates, and in practically every instance a big increase was noticeable. R. A. Jones, western sales agent for the Anaconda Copper company, com-pany, manufacturers of the superphosphate, super-phosphate, with headquarters at Salt Lake, and D. H. Whittenburg, agricultural agri-cultural superintendent for the sugar company, completed the survey of the fields where the fertilizer was used the first of the week, and they repiat a wonderful reaction where the p. -per care was exercised in the aprj-cation aprj-cation and irrigation of the fields. In some instances, it is reported, where improper application of thi fertilizer, and when irregularis :s were made in irrigation, there was a noticeable difference between where the application of the fertilizer and water, as had been advised, been strictly adhered to. Generally speaking, speak-ing, however, the uses of fertilizer, an essential element for successful crops, has proved that the tonnage, can be increased. Much of the. lands in the district have been neglected in the past, in so far as the rebuilding of the fertility is concerned, and with the opportunity at hand, to rebuild sthe soils, naturally the grower is looking forward for better results from his field that has been properly proper-ly rebuilt with the proper fertilization. fertiliza-tion. Mr. Jones stated that large quantities quanti-ties of the superphosphate for fertilization fertili-zation has been used in and around St. George and other sections of tha state, with telling results. As an experiment the officials of the Gunnison Sugar company used some twenty tons the past season, and so gratifying were the returns from the lands where this type of fertilization was used that plans have been completed for the purchase of 160 tons to be used in 1931. |
