M r. r He defended the people of Utah In a speech delivered in tho the House In January 1864 replying to an attack made upon them by Representative Fernando Wood of or New York the latter having referred to tho people of Utah as profligate o outcasts al always l- l ways wan hostile to the tho moral and political institutions of or the United States In which the New Yorker made a a. strong appeal later In the session for tor the admission admission ad ad- mission of Utah as a state in the tho union and presented a bill providing an enabling enabling- act for the formation of ot ofa ofa ota a state by the calling of ot an election providing pro for tor or a constitutional convention conven convert tion At the conclusion ot of Judge term in lu Congress Cons ho he removed to Ohio then going going- to San S Diego o. Ca Cal In 1897 ho he again ain came camo to Salt Lake this time as a delegate to the trans trans- trans Mississippi congress and two years ears later in he came to Salt lIt Lake to make his homo home again He died here August 16 1902 |
