"Team Now," as Swenson and his running mates called themselves, them-selves, consisted of Swenson; Ryan Coombs, vice president of academics; Robb Julin, vice president of student life; and Alexis Vangardson, vice president presi-dent of clubs. The four chose to focus on changes for UVSC students now or in the near future. The whole idea was to promise the students realistic things," said Swenson, an integrated studies major with an emphasis in communications and English. "We didn't want to promise them half tuition or anything because we know that isn't in our power. We want our changes in place next year." Some of Swenson's ideas include a no-interest no-interest book plan where students can borrow money for books and repay the loan without accruing any interest during dur-ing the semester. He would also like to provide more funding for clubs, increasing increas-ing the diversity of programming available avail-able for students and extracurricular activities. Additionally, Swenson and his running run-ning mates have focused on better representing rep-resenting the student body and being a G Kyle Rodgers, Brayden Santo, Jordon Sargent, Dayne Schouten, Mary Smith, Zachary Steele, Kyle Strong, Brianna Symons, Wesley Talbot, Megan Taylor, Jahnin Tonge, Andrew Walsh, Alexa Wible, Vanessa Wilkerson, Bree Woolstenhulme. The foursome will institute a Web site with updated on-campus issues as a venue to get consistent con-sistent student feedback and opinions. Representing the students has been important to 23-year-old Swenson in his experience so far in the student government. govern-ment. He held positions his first two years that gave him experience with on-campus on-campus leadership and campus representation repre-sentation in collaborations with other schools around the state, and in his junior jun-ior year, he served as the UVSC senator for the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. He met with the dean and department chairs regularly, taking their concerns to student government and vice versa. Swenson received more than 50 percent per-cent of the presidential votes cast. Originally from Orlando, Fla., he said he is eager to fill UVSC Student Body President Ryan Vogel's shoes. "My running mates and I spent so much time .with our campaign that when we were finally elected, we were relieved, but at the same time, we are wondering what the next year will hold for us. There's, , a sense of excitement because we want those promises we made to the students to be realized." National Volunteer Week is geared toward making a difference in a community. However, volunteer vol-unteer opportunities are year-round.
