She is still not as sharp as she can be but she is getting better and better," Mountain View coach Cal Jones said. "We are at our best when she is pitching and we can keep Kaycie (Zimmerman) at third." Neither team quit on the mound or on the field. Only one error was committed when a fly ball hit off a Bruin outfielders glove before falling to the ground. The miscue turned out not to be costly. The lone run of the game came in the fourth inning 226-2969 FAX: 226-6221 354 South State Street, Orem after Katie Welling singled. She advanced to second on a passed ball and on to third on a sacrifice bunt by Cara Wright. Zimmerman came through with the big hit as she singled home Welling to give the Bruins the run they needed. Jones said it was a great game. One of those where it is unfortunate that either pitcher had to lose. "She did a good job. I wouldn't want to have to face her too many times," he said. "We played just a little better today, that's all." Hill went the distance also striking out eight. She did not allow walk and only gave up four singles. She had excellent control as only two batters even saw the count reach three balls. Mikalauski allowed just three singles and two walks. Neither team had a plethora of base runners. Timpanogos stranded six, two left standing on third. Mountain View stranded just two, both left standing on second. The best offensive performances per-formances were by Zimmerman and T-Wolf Beverly Pead. Zimmerman had half her team's hits and the big RBI. Pead reached base all three of her plate appearances. She singled and then walked twice. Prep Softball THS come up short in extra innings DEAN VON MEMMOTT Utah Valley Correspondent In Region Seven softball action at Lone Peak, the Knights defeated Timpanogos 4-3 in an eight-inning eight-inning affair. The first inning went down as a stalemated pitching pitch-ing duel between Timberwolf Lyndsi Hill and Knight McKenzie McEwan. After the Lone Peak pitcher had kept the first three Timpanogos batters from reaching first base, Hill opened the first inning's bottom half by striking out Jayne Burgess. McEwan smacked a single off Hill, but Krystal Griffith hit into a double play. Reaching base via an infield error in the second, Timberwolf Kristin McCustion soon scored on a Hill groundout. Despite giving up a second-inning single to Desiree Dearing, Hill continued holding Lone Peak scoreless until the third. With one out in the bottom bot-tom of the third, Jessica Your Link Back To The Road. If they had it would have given Mountain View a two-game two-game lead in the region standings over the Timberwolves. So after the top of the first when the Bruins scored six runs, he had to rally his players. "We just couldn't make a play in the first. There were four balls that hit off gloves that plays could have been made," Nelson said. "I didn't think Ryder (Olsen) was pitching that bad." He wasn't but the defense could do little to back him up as they gave up three errors in the inning. Eight straight batters reached base in the top of the inning. Down 6-0, how did Olsen get in the position to win the game with a two-out, RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 8-7 8-7 Timpanogos victory? Mostly thanks to a five-RBI five-RBI performance by Spencer Johnson. In the fourth, he drove a 2-1 pitch from Joey Bye for a two-RBI single to make it 7-4. In the sixth, he knocked Bye out of the game by driving driv-ing a ball deep and over the Marshall doubled into left, and Burgess singled her in, tying the game at one. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth. Clubbing a center-field center-field single that inning, McCustion came home on a Chelsy Brown single to put Timpanogos ahead 2-1. The second Timberwolf lead vanished in the bottom of the inning. After the Knights loaded the bases with one out, Amy Nield slugged a two-run single sin-gle to push them out in front 3-2. Having been walked by Hill, Hillary Welch attempted attempt-ed to steal home but catcher Beverly Pead tagged her. On two outs in the top of the seventh, Stephanie Richins doubled in Hayli Duke to tie the game at three. Not letting any Knights touch base in the bottom of the seventh, the Timberwolves forced the game into the eighth inning. The Knights did not allow the Wolves to score in the top of the inning. In the bottom of the inning, Dearing singled in Alisha Trujillo to end the game. r" - X i , : -1 t - i This is a great time to purchase a new high efficiency air conditioner. He had a two-RBI triple. He scored to tie the game on a Micah Lisonbee single. Olsen, who got knocked around a little in the first, kept his head up and pitched six good innings after the first. He allowed only one more run, four hits and one walk in the next six innings. "Ryder didn't give up out there. This team didn't give up and that shows the character char-acter of these kids," Nelson said. In the bottom of the seventh sev-enth and with the score tied, Eddie Norton and Tyson Gonzales reached base with one out. Jace Bramwell popped out leaving leav-ing Olsen in the position to win the game. Olsen, who has been intentionally walked several sever-al times this season, finally got a pitch to hit and drove it deep to right-center field. It was well over the heads of the drawn in outfield.
