It took the Tigers less than three weeks to repeat the feat as they beat the T-Wolves 3-2 at Timpanogos. With two outs in the fourth and the game tied at one apiece, the bottom of ' the Orem batting order made things happen. Matt McCoy, who had an RBI-single RBI-single in the second inning, and Matt Woolsey hit singles sin-gles and they were followed by a RBI-single by JJ Downs. Woolsey scored on a throwing error on the Timpanogos catcher. The Tigers came out of the inning up 3-1. The bottom four spots in the Orem lineup hit six-for-10 and reached base in eight of 12 plate appearances. appear-ances. I r Photo by Martin Harris Timpanogos' Jace Bramwell singled and scored In the first inning. He went 2-for-4 In the loss to the Tigers. McCoy said. "McCoy and Woolsey have been real clutch all year at the bottom bot-tom of the order." The three runs were all Orem pitcher Mike Morgan and the Tiger defense needed. need-ed. Timpanogos hit into inning-ending double plays the first two innings and left the bases loaded in the fourth. In the game, the T-Wolves T-Wolves left eight men stranded. "Morgan had them off balanced all day with his breaking ball," McCoy said. Despite his effectiveness, Morgan almost did not finish fin-ish the game. In the bottom of the seventh, he walked two of the first three batters bat-ters and then gave up an RBI-single to Jace Bramwell. The T-Wolves had the tying run on second and the winning run on first with one out with their number three and four hitters hit-ters coming to the plate. Coach McCoy had a pitcher ready in the bullpen if Morgan did not retire Ryder Olsen. "He (Morgan) wanted to battle against Olsen. We walked him intentionally on his previous at-bat and Mike wasn't too happy. If he'd would have let Olsen get on, I would have brought in Mike Echohawk," McCoy said. However, Morgan got Olsen to strikeout on a three-and-two pitch and Spencer Johnson grounded out to third. The win puts Orem (4-2) at the top of the region standings halfway through league play. Heimuli did it at the plate and behind the plate to beat the Bruins. Behind the plate, she gunned down two runners run-ners trying to take second sec-ond on her. "There is not a better catcher in the state than Marsha Heimuli," Orem coach Paul Clark said. "She made some big plays." "Game-saving plays" might be a more appropriate. appro-priate. With one out in the seventh inning, the Bruins' JaNae Wright singled. Wright's pinch runner, Felica Marzan, became another Heimuli victim as she darted from first on a sacrifice bunt play. Unfortunately for the Bruins, Chelsey Mikalauski was unable to get the bat on the ball and Marzan was an easy pick off. Mikalauski doubled later in her at-bat. The Bruins had plenty of woes on the base paths. In addition to Heimuli's two put outs, the Bruins had another player picked off and hit into a double play. They left four more stranded. At the plate, Heimuli had the big hit with an RBI-single in the first inning that scored Alii Chapman, the only run Devrie Downey would need. Downey surrendered only four hits, one walk and one hit batter in seven innings. "Devrie had great control con-trol of all her pitches today," Clark said. "She came ready to play and had a great game." Mikalauski picked up a hard loss. She went six innings, allowing just three hits and a pair of walks. The one run was unearned due to a throwing throw-ing error on an infielder. The Bruin offense has only scored one run in their last two games.
