"'Guys and Dolls' is a great play to teach children," chil-dren," she said. "It has an exceptionally well-written script, they get to hone music and dance skills, and, equally important, they get to learn comic timing. I think it is important to learn comedy before drama. We did a full run-through Saturday, and I was pleased that they really punched the humor. I laughed out loud." Lowder said it has been a dream to direct "Guys and Dolls" because it is "fast paced, the jokes are good, and there is something magical about watching children." Scott Lohner, M.D. Custom LASIK treatments come to Utah County W. Scott Lohner, M.D., an Excel Eye Center Ophthalmologist, Ophthal-mologist, became certified on the LADARVision4000 laser Jan. 2 and now is the first LASIK surgeon in Utah County to offer FDA approved customized ablations with the LADARWave CustomCornea Wavefront System and LADARVision 4000. "The most exciting thing about this system is the accuracy accu-racy of its registration that allows for confident alignment of the customized wavefront information with the actual laser treatment. This makes sure the areas of the cornea that are treated line up precisely pre-cisely to give the desired results. With the LADARWave CustomCornea and LADARVision 4000 I have confidence con-fidence that I can treat my patients exactly as intended. This registration also gives superior alignment of astigmatism astigma-tism treatment as well," Lohner said. FDA Approval for customized cus-tomized ablation using this system was obtained on October 18 and has only recently been made available in Utah. Other wavefront technologies tech-nologies have not . received FDA approval yet. "Wavefront will revolutionize revolution-ize the way LASIK is done. This newer technology allows each patient who qualifies to have a customized treatment while additionally improving the safety and minimizing potential poten-tial side effects," Lohner said. Lohner has been practicing ophthalmology since 1996 and LASIK since 1998. His enhancement rate is only 1.72 percent (national average 5-8 percent) and 100 percent of his patients see 2040 or better after surgery, meaning they can pass a driver's license test without correction. Lohner offers free LASIK screenings in his Orem office. Call (801) 426-9800 today Brides for Seven Brothers." She also had a starring role in "The Mikado" and "Peter Pan." She has been working in theater since she was 3 and is a pre-theater major at Brigham Young University. The SCERA Youth Theatre begins each September. Orem Public Library to host workshops The Orem Public Library now hosts a regular regu-lar series of Thursday night programs in the Media Department, caEed "What Have We Here?" It is an, opportunity for people peo-ple to find out what resources exist in the library's audio-visual collection. col-lection. Emphasizing the differences differ-ences between the function func-tion of a library and a commercial com-mercial media outlet, library officials say each presentation spotlights things that are interesting yet may not be well known, because they have not been brought to the public's attention. Once a month, the "Just Arrived" program offers a sampling of newer CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes recently acquired by the library. These items are available for patrons to check out immediately following fol-lowing the presentation. Often featured are areas of the collection that may offer insight into a particular creative artist's life and work or give a historical his-torical perspective on a certain era of music or film. Three noted Utah poets will present their work Thursday, April 17 in a program called "Extreme Poetry." Susan Howe, who teaches at Brigham Young University, and Alex Caldiero, who teaches at Utah Valley State College, are both recipients of the Annual Poetry Award from the Association for Mormon Arts and Letters. They will be reading, along with Sara Caldiero-Oertli, who has often been featured fea-tured at the Utah Arts Festival and has been in charge of the Higher Grounds Poetry Series in Orem for two years. Richard Downey, a library staff member, will host a program Thursday, April 24 called "April Showers." Running the gamut from "Singin' in the Rain" to the 1937 film, "Hurricane," he will comment com-ment on behind-the-scenes activity in the making of these and other films that feature various levels of simulated downpour. Other library staff members also do presentations. presenta-tions. For more information, informa-tion, go to www.oremli-brary.org www.oremli-brary.org or call 229-7050.
