M 1 A CONTESTS ahing FINE SAY OF TALENT division comprised of E eight ight stakes held contests here friday an array of talent that again speaks highly of the educational activities of the al I 1 A was assembled for the contests of the ninth division of the mutual improvement pro associations of the L D S church held here friday afternoon and evening the division is comprised of eight stakes dr otto L anderson and mrs airs marvel dewey presidents of th the sevier stake AT 1 I A boards and their assistants had bad charge of arranging r for the contests the judges j u aneg d were professor edward C kimball senior senior organist of ali the salt lake tabernacle judge of music miss margaret caldwell head of the speech department of the L D S college in salt lake city judge of speech and story and 0 W robinson of provo well known recreational director judge of drama and dance these three judges will judge the contests in all fourteen divisions of the church and deviating from the regulations carried out in previous years will select from the winners of the fourteen divisions the two outstanding winners in each event to contest at the finals to be held at the june conference in salt lake city in previous years all the winners from every division vision ii have been invited to participate in the church finals at the conclusion of the evening session held in the auditorium of the sevier stake tabernacle with a large audience in attendance the individual winners were all awarded pins gold for first place silver for second place searing bearing the inscription al I 1 A and the name of the activity in in which the award was won winners were announced as follows male chorus north sanpete San pete first south sanpete San pete second double mixed quartet north san pete first south sanpete San pete second ladies chorus north sanpete San pete f first told t south sanate sanpete San pete second retold story miss vee hunt sevier stake first laura parker south sevier stake second van guards retold re told story preston gledhill sevier stake first dean larsen south sevier stake second gleaner girls public speaking miss beth shand south sanpete San pete first miss delma anderson gunnison stake second al mens public speaking frank cowley sevier stake first R dean Wash bun south sevier stake second drama south sevier stake first with the play in the making directed by mrs H roland Ti etien with the following cast mr and mrs V L israelson mrs harold magleby mrs dwight swindle keith 1 eita bohman and miss aliss una bertelsen second place in drama was won by the sevier stake with their play the song of solomon directed by oscar jacobsen with a cast consisting of mrs douglas shepherd mrs ida christensen miss juana peterson arlo christensen and james chalk you have to split hairs when it gets as good as it was tonight was the remark mr robinson made in announcing noun cing the winners of the dance miss AMs leah peterson and oscar jacobsen of the sevier stake first with miss dorothy olsen and winston crawford of the south sevier stake second As a feature of the evenings program the contestants in music from the various stakes were asked to sing as groups and between the two plays presented during the evening professor kimball delighted the audience with two organ solos the judges hope to be able to notify the various stakes by june I 1 of those who will be selected to take part in the grand finals
