Unopulos, Jr., 69, passed away June 18, 1989, in the South Davis Community Com-munity Hospital from complications complica-tions from diabetes. Bom Dec. 26, 1919 in Goldburg, Ida., to James Unopulos Sr. and Myrtle C. Gammett Unopulos. He married Elsie Anderson, May 1, J946 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. James graduated from Alterra High School, Roosevelt, Utah. He attended the University of Omaha, at Omaha, Neb. for one year. Received his BS degree in economics 1951, from the University Univer-sity of Utah, with highest honors. Member of Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Societies. Master's degree in business administration ad-ministration from Harvard University Univer-sity in 1953. Following his graduate study, he worked for the Union Oil Company of California, and Los Angeles, as a -economic and financial analyst for eight years. He then worked as executive ex-ecutive assistant to the vice president presi-dent of the Research and Development De-velopment Division of Autonetics, Anaheim, Calif., now owned by Rockwell International, until his retirement in 1973 at which time he moved to Centerville. Served in the Army during World War II. Enlisted as a private and served in nearly all the enlisted ranks, as a warrant officer for one year, then gained his commission, as an officer, at the Army Finance School, Duke University. As a major, he served two years as the payroll officer of the Army from Edmonton, Canada to Nome, Alaska. He won the Army commendation com-mendation ribbon and citation for outstanding personnel work in the Canadian Northwest Theater. He retired from the Army Reserves in 1980 as a lieutenant colonel. Active in the LDS Church since his conversion in 1938. Served a JAMES J. UNOPULOS, JR. two year mission with his wife, Elsie, in the Western Canadian Mission Mis-sion 1947-49. Served as a ward clerk, Elders quorum president, counselor in the bishopric, stake mission president, gospel doctrine class instructor, High Priest group leader. He is the author of four LDS books. Survivors include his wife, Elsie of Centerville; three sons and one daughter, Jim and Cheryl Unopulos, Centerville; Mark Unopulos, Salt Lake City; Caryl Ann and Tony Cortez, Danville, Washington; Stephen Unopulos, Centerville; six grandchildren; one brother, William Unopulos; two sisters, Mrs. Don (Jeannie) Fox and Mrs. Earl (Elaine) Nielson, all of Salt Lake City. Preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services Saturday, 11 a m. Centerville First Ward, 160 S. 300 E. Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful and on Saturday one hour prior to services at the church. Interment Centerville City Cemetery. I |
