She said they have made many major improvements and their aim is to offer "an economical place for weddings. ' " .'WEST BOUNTIFUL'' The historic Eldredge House Reception and Social Center is under new management ' ' After more than a quarter century under the management of Floyd " Williams, the reception and Social : center is now being managed by Carolyn Goodrich ofHolladay. . r "We have done a lot to clean and refurbish this historic building, and we aim to make it a pleasant and -economical place for wedding receptions re-ceptions and all types of social events,'' she said.' 1 Asked what will be offered at the center, Mrs. Goodrich replied, "We do it ail.? She said services will be offered at the center as well as catering at homes and businesses. V -The Eldredge House has been a ., popular gathering site for wedding receptions and socials since it was converted from a restaurant several years ago, ? Mrs. Goodrich explained, ex-plained, "But it will still carry on some of the old traditions-along with some new ideas - for the future." - ; She said she will bring some "new ideas and new life" to the center, by virtue of what the public desires most "This is a family business with my husband and children doing their part," she said, ? Mrs. Goodrich is new. to the wedding reception business, having served as a secretary to high school administrators in the Granite School 1 , District prior to taking over the business a couple of months ago. Mrs. Goodrich said . there has been some decorating - and recarpeting of the two-story structure, struc-ture, .Wedding receptions and socials can be held both inside and outside the historic home. ?.m 1 . Mrs, Goodrich came to Utah from Brunswick, Georgia. She said she loves to work with people and is looking forward to meeting new brides-to-be and their families. ... -. , She has, been active in several elementary and high school Parent-Teacher Parent-Teacher Associations, including the United Association of Community Councils, which is a combination of PTA councils in the Salt Lake Valley. : :- She and her husband. Jay, have five children, including two boys serving LDS missions in ; Christ Church, New Zealand, and, Minneapolis, Min-neapolis, Minn. "When they return, we will have all five children ' assisting in the business-at least for a while," she said. . The stately Eldredge mansion .vwith I white pillared porch and layers -of deep red brick was built near the turn of the century, but family records say only that it was probably started in 1899 or 1900. The home was a "rest haven" for several general authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,' including Presi-, Presi-, dent George Albert Smith and the Apostle Heber J. Grant The latter reportedly stayed in the Eldredge House's Victorian Quarters for 18 months during the trouble with polygamy after the manifesto. ,. |
