Show FKA.'CE. Vereaiks, 25. The chamber o! deputies to-day almost without discussion discus-sion agreed to the abolition of the slate of Beige. The report of the committee on the recommendation of enquiry into tho election of M. Mun, clericalist deputy, to ascertain whether there was undue interference on the part of the clergy, was then taken up for consultation. M. Mun made an energetic speech in defense of the right of the clergy to support candidates in order to defend religion, whicli was menaced by the democrats. Uambctta replied that he did not attack religious liberty, which ' ought to be protected by the republic rta well as by any other government. All we aim at is to coutino tho clergy to their proper sphere and to prevent pre-vent the pidpit Irom being trans formed into a Molilic.al platform. We desiro to have this inquiry in order to call upon the government to remind the clcryy that they should remain in theirpropcr sphere. The inquiry was voted 309 yens to 170 naya. The chamber also voted an inquiry into the question of M. Iron, Bons-partist Bons-partist in the llawte Gironde. Of the elections of deputies yet awaiting verification the validity of 42 is strenuously di.sputcd, and in 3b of these C-jntesLeJ cases the sitting deputies are legitimists and Bonu-parlists. |
