Show CONNECTICUT NEXT. The next polUica! even will be the election in Connecticut, which will occur on Monday, April 3.1, when a full list of -state oflkcrd will be chosen ami a legislature that will choose a United rftatca senator for tlio unexpired unex-pired term of the !ale Senator Ferry, mul a congreamim fur the unexpired term of the lato Mr. Starkweather. Gov. Ingersoll flLal the present democratic demo-cratic state officers have been rc-nom-inatetl for election, and ordinarily there would be little doubt of their election, as Connecticut has had a decided democratic majority for the last few elections. Governor Ingersoll has been three times elected by continually increasing majorities, and is very popul.ir; but the republican repub-lican party U making streuuoua efforts to reclaim the state oa account principally prin-cipally of the effect its triumph would have upon the prudential election. Iu Connecticut, as in New Hampshire, Hamp-shire, outside financial aid is brought . to bear, and it ia safe to saj that thu patent argument will have its due cflect. The importance of filling SsnaliT Ferry's seat with a straight republican gives additional interest to the cauvas, aa the waning strength of the republican party in Iha senate ii a warning that its present small majority may soon Blip a-rr.ty altogether. If the republicans can succeed in bagging Connecticut, it will be a very severe blow to the democracy, which it will be ditiicult for them to rahy under. |
