Show Ft. Duchesne Won Baseball Title; Received Award The Eastern Utah Baseball tournament drew a large crowd Aug. 29 and 30, as all baseball fans were interested in the contest con-test between local teams of My-ton My-ton and Ft. Duchesne, and Draper Dra-per and Sandy. On Saturday, Ft. Duchesne won a smashing victory over Sandy, with a score of 11 to 1. This was followed by a much closer score of 5 to 4 in favor of Myton, who played the Draper Dra-per team. On Sunday the winners of Saturday's games contested, having another close score as Ft. Duchesne wori over Myton, 4 to 3 for the championship. The Draper game followed with Sandy winning 6 to 2. A special feature of the event was the presentation of a trophy by the Myton Lions Club to the tournament winning team from Ft. Duchesne. This event will be repeated next year and baseball base-ball fans are all looking forward for-ward to the next tournament. Lyle Gingell was manager and Russell Gingell captain of the Myton team. MAKING QUILT The Relief Society members gathered at the Myton L.D.S. chapel Tuesday afternoon where their busy fingers were engaged in a quilting bee. Blaine JBrokaw, Wesley Jen-son, Jen-son, J. W. Jenson and H. C. Cooper left last Wednesday for a sight-seeing trip through Washington, being interested in the building activities in that district. Visitors last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Perry we're, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Niel-son, Niel-son, of North Salt Lake. Mr. Nielson is a brother of Mrs. Perry and is a former resident of this district. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Broome enjoyed a visit from their granddaughter, grand-daughter, her husband and son, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bywater and son, of Salt Lake City, during dur-ing the extended Labor Day weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Fay Anderson and children, of Salt Lake City, visited friends in Myton, Saturday. Satur-day. Mr. Anderson resided here in his early youth and his many old friends were greeting him during his short stay. Morris Buckwalter, Jr. joined his brother, Ray, at their ranch east of town, coming from their home in Legrande. Oregon, for a few days at the farm before the opening' of the school year. Ray, who has been here during the entire summer, will attend the BYU at Provo, while Morris will enroll at the University of Utah. Mrs. Arlean Hardinger and sons, Eugene and Norman, arrived ar-rived Saturday from Denver, Colo, for a weekend visit at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emery Nielson. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Harris during the Labor Day weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ratteman and 2 children, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Andrews and 2 children, Mrs. Ilia Wells and Miss Gilda Wells all of Salt Lake City. The group enjoyed a trip to the Monks camp on Upper Yellowstone, Yellow-stone, Sunday. Mrs. Wells and her three daughters are former Myton residents and were greet, ing old friends while here. Mrs. John Tucker, the former LaVora Murray, visited her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Murray, Mur-ray, during the weekend prior to returning to St. George, where she joined her husband. Both are members of the faculty facul-ty at Dixie College. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Meran-da Meran-da came from American Fork for the weekend to attend to farm duties at their property west of town. Mr. and A. L. Schuckers left Sunday for Mt. Pleasant, taking tak-ing their daughter, Sally, to Wasatch Academy to resume her studies. Their son. Jim, who has been vacationing in New Mexico, joined them there and will also resume his classes there. Mrs. Lena Lisonbee returned home Saturday night from the Jackson Hole Dude Ranch at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she has been employed during the summer. Mrs. Lisombee will again be supervisor in the Myton My-ton school lunch room, during the ensuing year. Mrs. Herbert Christensen and three daughters of Provo arrived arriv-ed Saturday for a brief visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gingell. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bingham Bing-ham and family came from Salt Lake City for a weekend visit with Mrs. Bingham's mother, Mrs. Ole Peterson, and her brother, Franklyn Peterson who was recently discharged from the U.S . Army. Mr. and Mrs. George Funk left Sunday to' return their daughter, Joan, to Wasatch Academy Ac-ademy to resume her studies, and then took their son, Howard How-ard to Logan where he will again attend the U.S.A.C. LaVar Peterson and Paul Rrigham returned last week from a trip to Pasco, Washington Washing-ton and surrounding area. Mr. and Mrs. James Dal-gleish Dal-gleish joined Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hart of Duchesne at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Del Combs near Talmage Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Lott returned re-turned Sunday from St. Louis, Missouri, where they attended the National Convention of the American Legion and Auxiliary. They report a most enjoyable and interesting trip. |
