Show This Week's RECIPE... No one's canning shelves are complete without a supply of home-made Sweet Pickles Manv friends of Mrs. Wesley r'. Dick-trson Dick-trson have requested her famous fam-ous Sweet Pickle recipe SWEET PICKLES' 24 cucumbers, dill size Soak two weeks in brine strong enotigh to float' an egg' Place in crock or container ?,r J?over with clean cloth. Weight down, so cucumbers are completely covered with brine Rinse cloth frequently. After two weeks take nickles from brine and wash in clear water. Replace pickles in clean container and soak in alum water wa-ter overnight. (Alum, the size of a walnut). Rinse off thoroughly and cut in desired chunks. Make following syrup: 1 qt. malt vinegar 2 qts. sugar . 1 tbs. whole cloves stick cinnamon to taste, (approximately (ap-proximately 1 box) Boil together and pour over pickles. For five consecutive mornings drain syrup from pickles, boil and pour over pickles again. On fifth morning bottle pickles and seal. |
