Show Sew Coach Greeis Promising Football Squed-Flenty Of Bed & Power; To Traia Sophomore Team For Future There isn't anyone predicting a state championship football team for Union High this fall, or even a division winner in Region Five, but those who have ( watched Coach Horace Gillespie put his enthusiastic charges through the paces, are confident someone will have to play a pretty fair brand of football if they beat the Cougars. Twenty-eight rugged young-1 sters survived the first cut that , was made on Tuesday opening : day of school, and are really working overtime to be num.-. bered among the starting eleven when the Cougars meet Park City, Friday. Sept. 11, on the Miners' field. Coach Gillespie has a potent array of veterans back in suit, and some mighty promising kids, who will make things rough on the vets for starting calls. It's doubtful if very many high schools in the state will have more "beef" on its line than Union can field, For instance, in-stance, there is Craig Hutchings, whom Gillespie lists as a tackle and who weighs in at 220; then there is a junior, Jack Adams, who carries around 205 pounds and is slated for guard duty; Albert Collotzi, one of the top-notch top-notch tackles in Class B last year has added a few more pounds and has 198 pounds of brawn and muscle to make things rough for the opposition. A regular end last year, Gordon Eldredge, at 175, and Rulonj Gilbert a newcomer who tops the scales at 183, about round out the list of big boys. Something new is being attempted at-tempted at union a group of sophomores are to be kept in action during the season and a few games are being sought to give them. A home 'and nome game with Wasatch and Uintah High Schools is being sought for the sophs. Prospects are bright tor a fast and hard driving backfield, with at least 8 to 10 backs about equal at this stage of the game All of which gives Coach Gillespie depth in the backfield. However, reserve strength on the line is another thing not too promisiing at the present.
