Eligibility for such assistance according to the law passed by Congress in 1956, begins with the orphan's 18th birthday or upon his or her successful completion of high school, which ever comes first. The opportunity terminates on the 23rd birthday of the individual indi-vidual orphan. The law provides education or training up to maximum of 36 months. For students who attend approved colleg-e or vocational or business schools 'the law provides $110.00 per month upon the completion com-pletion of a month's full course, $80.00 per month on a three-fourths three-fourths time basis and $50.00 per month on a half -time basis. At the present time there are 711 Utah War Orphans eligible for such subsidized training; but to date only 46 have availed themselves them-selves of the opportunity. If any such eligible orphans are residing in the Pleasant Grove area they should write at once to the National Child Welfare Division, American Legion, P.O. Box 1055, Indianapolis 6, Indiana. |
