Show Contract Sought by School Board And District Health Department Members of the Garfield County School District Board of Education heard a report from a representative of the Southwest District Health Services at their regular meeting held Thursday evening. It was suggested that the district adopt a contract with the organization which would set forth expected responsibilites. A sample contract was presented to the board for its consideration. Supt. Henry Jolley indicated that he would like each principal to see and approve the contract before board members actually gave it their approval. Board president Doug Fonncsbeck commented that Health, Education and Welfare secretary Joseph Califano has been urging immunziation for all public school students. Jolley asked for input from the various schools about methods for enforcing immunization. He also asked that district records be brought fully up-to-date and that he be furnished with a complete list of students who had not complied. Basic responsibility, he emphasized, should fall upon the parents. In his report to the board, Barry Erickson, music teacher, indicated his music program had met with considerable success. His students supported his claim with a special performance for the board members. Erickson hopes to expand his program and double the enrollment of music students. Community Education coordinator, Stan Stott, summarized the activities of community education since September. The program is in its initial phase in Escalante where opinion surveys are ready for circulation preparatory to forming a community council. Although operating costs have been trimmed even further, the Panguitch community pool is still operating at a financial loss. The need for greater support from townspeople was emphasized. In an effort to enhance academics, the school district will participate for the first time in the Sterling Scholarship Awards. It is hoped that local businesses will participate with contributions for the scholarships. |
