Show Nancy Bales, newly named associate editor of Garfield County News is anxious to serve all areas of Garfield County 'News' Names Associate Editor Assigned as new associate editor of Garfield County News, Nancy Bales will cover news and advertising for Garfield County and surrounding areas and direct operating of the newspaper. A native of Los Angeles, she has lived in Tropic four years. Educated in California schools with a background in the biological sciences, languages, and English, she also attended Brigham Young University where she majored in English and American literature. In her senior year of high school after having been awarded science fair honors several years running, Mrs. Bales was granted a special summer position at the Naval Civil Engineering Laboratory at Port Hueneme, Calif., where the five physicists for whom she did research and lab studies were pioneering the Sea Lab project. When 19, the results of her research were published in collaboration with Harold R. Vind, PhD, in a prominent scientific journal. Excited about her new position with the News, Mrs. Bales said, "I'm really looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends and I'll certainly do my best to try to do a good reporting job for the people who read Garfield County News." The 29-year-old mother of two, plans to stay in southern Utah where blue skies, beautiful scenery and friendly people have combined to win her allegiance. A member of the LDS church, she serves as special assistant to the Stake Relief Society president in the Escalante, Utah Stake.
