Show LaVerkin Stages Rally To Beat St. George 13-12 La Verkin again proved that they aren't beaten until the final out in the ninth inning, when they came from behind to stage an 8 run rally in the Sth and 9th innings in-nings of the game played last Saturday Sat-urday afternoon in the local ball park between them and St. George. The local team had it all their way up until that time having taken the lead and held it from the first inning, but either La Verkin had too much on the ball, or the St. George team not enough, so that the final count gave the La Verkin boys the victory by a score of 13-12. St. George stepped into the lead by scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning, were blanketed in the 2nd, scored 4 in the 3rd, 3 in the 4th, 1 in the Sth and 2 in the 7th. They held a 10-2 lead in the 4th and 12-4 in the 7th, but the La Verkin boys started to find Dick Lund's offerings offer-ings in the 8th and staged a 5r run rally and then held the local team scoreless in the 9th while they went out and garnered enough to put the game in the bag. Woodbury started on the mound for La Verkin, but was knocked out in the 4th when he was relieved re-lieved by W. Wilson who pitched a beautiful game to bring his team through to victory, Dick Lund was taken out in the last half of the 9th with no outs, the score tied and two men on. He was relieved by Ed Lund, but Ed couldn't stave off the LaVerkin rally either. |
