People continue to visit area parklands With the exception of Natural Bridges, area National Parks continued to show an increase in visitation over the preceding preced-ing year. During the year to date, a total of 85,885 people have visited Canyonlands, an increase of 15 percent over the 74,847 who visited the Park by this time last year. The largest increase in visitation to various sections of the park was experienced by the Needles, which show 42,090 visitors thus far this year, up 14 percent from last year's 35,817. In November of this year 1,404 people visited the Needles, as compared to 1,013 last November, an increase of 39 percent. Visits to the Island in the Sky section, however, dropped 24 percent this November as compared to last November; from 788 to 597. During the year to date, 32,824 people have traveled to the Island, up 10 percent from the 29,835 who did so last year. Figures for the Green and Colorado Rivers within with-in the Park are kept through the month of October. The figure for total visitation this year is 7,443, up 49 percent from last year's 4,998. In October alone, 88 people traveled the rivers, a whopping 214 percent increase over last October's Octo-ber's visitation of 28. Overnight stays, due to multi-day river trips, show a heavier visitation. Through October of this year, 20,835 people traveled travel-ed on the rivers, up 34 percent from last year's figure of 15,567. Visitation to Arches National Park has increased increas-ed slightly during the year to date, from 309,039 last year to 323,943 this year, an increase of 5 percent. During the montn of November, however, visitation vis-itation to the park dropped 22 percent below November Novem-ber of last year; from 7,406 to 5,815. Following a summer-long summer-long pattern, visitation to Natural Bridges during the year to date continued to run below last year's figures, down 7 percent, from 74,395 to 69,376. Visitation to the monument monu-ment in November, 1978 increased 13 percent to 1,932 from 1,706 in November, 1977.
