Show Devils whip Monticello in 3rd win Following season-opening victories victor-ies over Norwood and Nucla, the Moab Red Devils continued their winning ways, beating the Monti-cello Monti-cello Buckaroos by a lop-sided score of 79-45 in a game held in Moab last Saturday. Head Coach Del Ford's asserta-tion asserta-tion that the Devils would rely more on speed and accuracy than height this season was well proven as Moab completely dominated the game from the opening buzzer. By the end of the first period the Devils had outscored the Bucks 25-12. Monticello was hampered by inaccurate shooting and an inability to hold onto the ball, giving away numerous turnovers to the quick Moab team. By the end of the second period, the Devils had rolled up an impressive 52 points to Monti-cello's Monti-cello's 19. During the third period the Bucks managed to score only 8 points to Moab's 15, leaving the Devils in front 67-27. The game's pace slowed somewhat some-what in the final period as both teams were hampered by a large number of fouls. However, Moab maintained its commanding lead, coming out on top 79-45. The high scorer in the game was 6'3" Moab Senior Ted McDougall with 17. Also scoring in the double digits for the Devils were Chad Donoghue with 11 and Bill Pruitt and Lou Cunningham with 10 each. The Junior Varsity was defeated by the Monticello J.V.'s 47-41. This Friday and Saturday Moab will be sponsoring the Red Devil Classic, a two-day tournament. Separate tournaments will be held for J.V. and Varsity teams, with championships awarded in each. East Carbon and Altamont will be participating in the tourney along with Moab. Coach Ford stated that Moab's J.V. and Varsity teams may be split into separate squads to provide additional competition. The tourn ament will begin Friday with J.V. competition at 2:30 and 4 p.m. Varsity games will be held in the evening at 6 and 7:45 p.m. On Saturday the J.V. consolation game will start at 2:30, with the championship scheduled at 4 p.m. Varsity competition will get underway under-way with the consolation game at 6 and the championship game at 7:45 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to five all-star players in both J.V. and Varsity as well as the champion Varsity and J.V. teams. r ' ' i I i i . . , i ! fM . : Moab Senior Alfred Joe goes up for the score in a game against the Monticello Buckaroos last Saturday in Moab.
