Show Elks to award student efforts By TOM HARALDSEN Editor BOUNTIFUL The Bountiful Lodge of Elks will again offer ? vocational scholarships to worthy students from the south Davis County area this year. Students eligible must live in an area from Layton to North Salt Lake. James L. Szatkowski, Exalted Ruler of Lodge 2442 in Bountiful, Bounti-ful, stated other lodges in the state will also provide scholarships for those living outside the south Davis area. Applications for :: I; the scholarships can be obtained from Mr. Szatkowski at the lodge, located at 400 North 500 West in Bountiful. The lodge . ; phone number is 298-1631, and Mr. Szatkowski can also be : " reached at 292-1470 (home) or 251-1 141 (work). ! i Students planning to pursue a vocational-technical course in a school or college lending to an associates degree, but less than a ; bachelor's are eligible to compete for $2,000 grants from the Elks National Foundation. The Elks National Foundation Trus- i tees have set aside $538,000 for the grants for the next two school years.. Each grant is for $1 ,000 for each of the two years. A total of 269 grants will be awarded, with at least one per state. Additional grants will be allotted according to Elks' dona- S tions within a state. , :: Although graduating seniors are eligible to apply, older stu- : ? dents who desire training or retraining are encouraged to apply : as well. High school diplomas or GED's are not required. Applications must be turned in by Nov. 25 to the local lodge. :? |
