Janet Mangum, 295-8484, is the president of the Davis County Chapter. The Utah Association of Women recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. During those years it has represented conservative women in giving a voice to various important issues. Families continue con-tinue to be faced with the problems of abortion, teen pregnancy, humanism hu-manism being taught in the schools, pornography, homosexuality, AIDS, rock music and others. The Utah Association of Women (UA of W) was formed to "educate for action" on issues which affect the traditional family, Judao-Christian Judao-Christian ethics, and moral values. It takes much time, research, hard work, courage, and some financial support to meet their commitments effectively and to remain on the battle front in protection of the family. Over the past several months the U A of W has taken an active part in the public hearings conducted by the State School Textbook Commission Com-mission on human sexuality (sex education). As the commission has met to draft the final recommendations recommenda-tions for the State School Board, they became aware of the consideration consider-ation of some texts and programs that would be detrimental to children. chil-dren. Because these texts and programs prog-rams could conflict with existing state laws which prevent the use of explicit sexual materials, the textbook tex-tbook committee may approach the legislature to change the laws.
