Show A " NEWS " SUGGESTION. The News seems to be considerably exercised ex-ercised over Governor Murray's veto of the Jury bill, and after discussing the matter at great length in its issue of Saturday Sat-urday evening, advises the Legislature to again pass the bill, in modified form, so as to afford "accused persons notcharged with an offense under the Edmunds law the opportunity of getting an impartial jury.!' If executive assent is refused to such a measure, the News intimates that the Legislature should "let the open venire outrage go on, but without a cent's appropriation," etc. The News is evidently very much vexed over the action of Governor Murray, and i in its impotent wrath makes a suggestion, sugges-tion, the carrying out of which would undoubtedly result in deciding the Ad ministration (with the advice and consent of the Senate, of course) to establish a Legislative-; Commission in Utah. Let the Legislature carry out the suggestion j of the News, and if, as has been charged, Governor Murray is deliberately planning to bring about 3uch a state of affairs as will make it absolutely necessary for the Administration to send here a Legislative Commission, he (the Governor) will have cause to heartily thank the News and the Legislature for the signal aid they will thus render him in attaining his object. The courts must run, and if the Legislature Legis-lature does not appropriate the funds necessary to keep them in operation, the Government will have to come to the rescue, and as the failure of the Legislature Legis-lature to provide the necessary means will be construed as unwillingness on its part to aid the Government in enforcng its laws against such persons as may violate the provisions of the Edmunds ! law, it is easy to see what the result will be. ; - Can . it be true that the News is in league with Governor Murray to secure a legislative Commission for Utah, and is only simulating indignation at his official course? If so, the Democrat hopes that the object both parties are working for will be attained. |
