Show Fort Lane Center lends support to anti-drug campaign LAYTON The Fort Lane Shopping Center is throwing its weight behind the "Kids Say Know" anti-drug use campaign. Sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers, First Lady Nancy Reagan is honorary chairperson for the program. As part of "Just Say No to Drugs Week" that runs through Saturday, Satur-day, pledge booths are in place 3-9 p.m. through Friday and 10-6 p.m. on Saturday at Fort Lane and Layton Hills Mall, says R.B. Willey. Mr. Willey is co-owner of Fort Lane Shopping Center. He notes that during the 1950s, 14 in 100,000 youth were affected by polio. Today, To-day, the AIDS epidemic affects approximately 17 in 100,000. About 10,000 in 100,000 adolescents adoles-cents are dependent upon drugs and alcohol, however, he notes. Long-term physical and mental consequences of drug use can inflict in-flict nerve and liver damage, delusions, delu-sions, hallucinations, psychoses caused by drug toxicity, stroke, depression, de-pression, convulsions, weight loss and addiction. The program is a non-profit, non-commercial education effort, Mr. Willey emphasizes. |
