Show Logan Points. The grain and flour shipments out of Cache valley have been very large the past week. Since the trouble with the miners at Rock Springs the Utah and Northern has been running extra freight trains from Ogden to Pocatello. The trains are generally gener-ally loaded with coal which comes from the Utah Central mines at Pleasant Valley. Val-ley. The cause of the rush is a fear that the trouble is not over, and a desire to be provided for any emergency. It is rumored that Master Mechanic Hickey is not willing to be governed by an agreement between the company's managers and the Knights of Labor, that no more mechanics should be employed as long as the short time of eight hours per day is worked. His disregard led to trouble recently when a tramp whom he j had put to work wa3 ducked in Snake River. It is said that the men in Eagle Rock are of a class that will not hesitate to duck the highest officials of the road if the custom is adopted as a means of bringing these individuals to a remembrance remem-brance of their promises. Mr. Christian Garff of Logan has been working for nearly two months past at various times developing an idea which entered bis head regarding the constructing construct-ing of a wheel which would operate in a current and be a power in . working machinery. ' The result of his labors is a current wheel which, tested on Thursday evening, lifted a weight of a thousand pounds. This wheel is different from anything known of that kind, being capable capa-ble of utilizing power in a running stream of water and can be used in lifting water or in running machinery for factories, etc. The invention is original with Mr. Garff and will no doubt, from present indications, indica-tions, prove of great benefit. Mr. Garff has applied for a patent. We will be able, likely, soon to furnish our readers with more particulars regarding the power of the current wheel. We congratulate con-gratulate Mr. Garff upon his success and trust that it will fully meet his expectations. expecta-tions. Journal 26th. |
