Show j Kiel's Sympathizers, in Session. MoNTBEAii, September 26. A meeting in behalf of Louis Riel was held this afternoon, when a resolution was passed asking for subscriptions to take an appeal to the Supreme Counoil. Mr. Fitzpatrick, Riel's counsel, said Riel's insanity plea .was of no avail, as in a' charge of treason no justification justifica-tion was admitted. L. David said to save Riel was to 6ave French nationality, and he was the best Catholic and was the best Canadian who sacrificed the most for the cause of Riel. The Orangemen of Ontario, he said, wanted to drive out the French, but they would not be able to do so, for while a century ago they were but 6,000 strong, they numbered 2,000,000 to-day. A circular in favor of vaccination was read in most of the city hospitals to-day. |
