Show ii j. UTAH AT NEW ORLEANS. ; The New Orleans Exposition will re-' , ' ' : open on the 10th of November, and" in all I i ! . ways will doubtless surpass the display of I : ! ' j last year. The New Orleans Exposition I'M is a full and complete recognition of l,he fact that the war is long "since over and that the South abides by its results, and at the same time it is an invitation to the North and to the world to come to the South and investigate her resources and ; ' to help her along in the grand march of j ' ' ' peace and prosperity. At the Exposition I . 1 : - . r ; ' ' ! :j; : ' I 1 ! last year there were some drawbacks, but this year they will have disappeared, and things will be I far more complete in every way. j It is now generally conceded that the ! press of the country did the Exposition a greai injustice in underating its worth and the completeness of its exhibits. The I press should now do all in its power to rectify a wrong and encourage a worthy j enterprise. Many of our fellow towns- 1 people visited the Exposition last year and were well pleased with it ; but they j all expressed a sincere regret that Utah was unrepresented there. Utah and Alaska were the only two Territories in the Union which were unrepresented, but this year Alaska will be thoroughly represented, and ' her exhibit will doubtless be among the most attracting of any there. In view of the fact that the Exposition this year will probably far surpass that of last, it is to be hoped that the. people of Utah will make a determined and commendable com-mendable effort to have Utah fully represented repre-sented at New Orleans. Some have been anxious to know whether any space has been allowed for the display of Utah's exhibits. It is with pleasure we are enabled en-abled to say that it has. A telegram from Director-General Glenn to General P. E. Connor, Utah's Commissioner Commission-er at the Exposition, says that four thousand square feet have been allotted to " Utah for , the display of her products and manufactures. The people of Utah should take advantage advan-tage of this space to show to the world, for such is the Exposition almost, what Utah's resources and capabilities are. Some have an idea that it is desired to make an exhibit of Utah minerals alone. It is an erroneous idea and one of which all should disabuse their minds. It is desired de-sired to make the exhibit complete in all departments, in minerals and manufactures manufac-tures ; in cereals and forestry ; in fact in i everything. The works of Utah artists should go to the Exposition as well as her cotton or woolen or silk goods. Special pains should be taken to show the world the natural advantages of the Territory Ter-ritory that foreign capital may seek investment here. Have any efforts ever been made to 6how the advantages which Utah possesses as a pleasure resort? Certainly Cer-tainly there was never such an opportunity oppor-tunity to apprize people of the existence of such a place as the Exposition offers. Perhaps there would be no better way to do this than by the sending of a large display of photographs ' showing the scenery of this Territory ; but they should be accompanied by pamphlets giving full information and statistics. "The. time remaining in which to prepare a display of the products and resources of the Territory is short, but for that very reason the people should bestir themsel ves all the more. It will be a disgrace to Utah if her people allow this second opening of the New Orleans Exposition to go by and this Territory has no display there. Let us have a display worthy of our resources and it will be bread cast upon the waters. |
