Show 100,000 Head of Cattle in' Qnaraii. .. , , tine. ;! Galveston, Texaa, September 27. A special spec-ial to the News from Dallas says: A gentleman gentle-man who arrived to-day from the West reports that in the section of country between be-tween Midland and Toyat, a distance of 112 miles and of immense width north and south, 100,000 head of cattle are held in quarantine by a New Mexican syndicate, who hold publio lands in evasion of the Federal homestead law. - Several conflicts, con-flicts, involving a loss of six lives, have taken place within the past two weeks in the Delaware, Black, Little and Big Cimarron regions of New Mexico, none of which have found publicity in the papers. An appeal will be made to the Federal Government Gov-ernment by stockmen and bonafide applicants appli-cants for homesteads against the lawless action of the New Mexican organization, an investigation of whose title will be demanded. demand-ed. The school lands of Texas, on which a large number of cattle graze, are entirely barren of verdure and will be worthless for years to come. Stockmen are anxious for an early frost, which will compel the raising of the quarantine against Texas cattle and enable them to drive to winter quarters in New Mexico and Arizona, whence they will drive to the Northwestern Territories in the spring. Suffering stock men claim that the New ..Mexicans are endeavoring lo force Texas cattle into starvation, with the belief that if successful they can purchase them for half their value, while New Mexican cattle cat-tle in the meantime advance in price. |
