Show "NANON" AND "THE MIKADO." A Sparkling Performance Last IVight-Carleton Talks of "Mikado." The second performance "of "Nanon" by the Carleton Company, at the Walker Opera House, drew out a fine audience last evening, and standing room was only obtainable after 8 o'clock. The opera went with all the vim and dash for which this company is noted, the strength and beauty of the chorus being a general theme, and the bright, sparkling music, rendered in such a delightful manner, called forth encore after encore. - Between the acts Mr. Carleton came before the curtain and made an announcement announce-ment in reference to "The Mikado" tonight. to-night. He did not wish to be understood as referring to the amateur company, but the distorted and piratical versions of the opera given here, by "professionals" "profes-sionals" had been wretched imitations, and gave no proper idea of the piece. His costumes and every detail had - been expressly imported at a large expense; tbe original orchestration was possessed by him alone and for every dollar that goes into the house to-night Gilbert & Sullivan will receive.a percentage as a reward for their brain work his representation of "The Mikado" to-night would be a performance per-formance of which he would be proud, and he thought it would prove to be the grandest opera he had ever put on in Salt Lake. A large house is already sold for tonight, to-night, for it seems to be an accepted fact that Carleton 's presentation will be all he claims for it. |
