Show 1 YEBY "PEACEFUL" RESOLUTIONS. Telegraphed to the President and the Press By Our Very Law Abiding: Local Officials. ' ' The few persons assembled in the City Hall yesterday morning at the invitation j of the City Council to further investigate I the cause of the present rumors of war, ! adjourned after much discussion, several j "experiences," and the adoption of a list i of resolutions to be presented to the City j Council, and to be telegraphed to the. President and Associated Press. There were present William Jennings, Mayor Sharp, Apostles Snow, Richards, Grant, and others. - ;The resolutions refer to the existing troubles in Utah ; the non-concurrence of Gentile citizens with the city officials in investigating the difficulties, and close with the statement that after diligent and i searching inquiry, and the taking of reli-i reli-i able testimony, such rumors as had taken ' definite form and as were reported to the city officials were refuted. At the evening session it was further resolved by the Mayor and City Council of Salt Lake City that the reports of rumors of any condition of affairs other than of the most peaceful character prevailing at the present time in this city, are false. That at no time in the history of this city have the lives and property of its non-Mormon inhabitants been more secure than now.' The reports to the contrary have been accredited and circulated by Federal officials of this Territory, for some purpose pur-pose best known to themselves. These statements were telegraphed throughout the country in accordance with the sense of the meeting. |
