Show Yesterday's 3Ielec at the "Fountain." The trial of J. A. F'itzgerald in the police court this afternoon caused a lull attendance of frequenters of his rendezvous, rendez-vous, the "Fountain." Several of the soldiers could not be found bv the prose-tion, prose-tion, and it is said thev were "spirited" away. The eyidence adduced bv several who witnessed the disgraceful affair in the "Fountain" yesterday morning went to prove the truthfulness of the account given in last night's Dsmocj'.at, despite the proprietor's card in the Tribune this morning. The basement saloon was at the beginning be-ginning aa quiet iind orderly as most of such places are presumed to be, but of late the numerous fights and disorders have attracted the comment of the city, and many settlements have had to be made in the police court. One of the parties implicated in yesterday yester-day morning's melee said to-dav that the head of the Fountain offered him $20 to keep mum about the knife cutting affair, but the witness declined. The case continues. |
