Show The Roumelian revolution,- or -rather insurrection, is assuming moro importance import-ance each day, and already the English and Continental press are beginning to look upon the matter with alarm and as likely to be serious in its consequences. Whether the signatory Powers will stand by the Treaty of Berlin is a question that agitates Europe at present. If they do, the insurrection will not amount to much ; but if, on the other hand, they allow the Bulgarian Prince to assume sovereignty over Roumelia such a condition con-dition of things may lead to a reopening of the ever-vexed and always unsettled Eastern question. In that event it will not l)e surprising to see Russia renew her advance into Afghanistan and again assert her claims to Constantinople. The developments of the next few days will be watched with interest. |
