Show The Chess Championship. New Yobk, January 13. The second game of chess in the series which is being played for the championship of the world and a stake of $4,003 between W. Steinitz and J. H. Zukertort was begun at 2 o'clock to-day. The attendance was large. Max Judd, a St. Louis player, was present making arrangements arrange-ments for the series of three games which are to be played there by the same players. At the appDintetl time the contestants placed themselves at a table upon a dias, and Herr Steinitz opened with the Scotch gambit. After Heir Steinitz's thirty-first move a recess re-cess was taken. The game was resumed this evening. At the end of the f orty-Bixth move white resigned, Zukertort winning. |
