Show New Tear's Day in Zion. New Year's day was rather quiet, in Salt Lake. The air was crisp and the most of people hugged their own firesides and relished a home dinner with the family. fam-ily. Nearly every place of business was closed, and no "life was visible except about the hotels,billiard parlors, Theatre, and the occasional hack load of enthused "callers" whirling about the city among their acquaintances. The plug hats were resurrected for yesterday's display, and the gallant brigade did themselves proud among the host of fair admirers. . Nothing Noth-ing sensational in the way of a calamity marred the day, and with the exception of a few enlarged heads and vacant shoes at several places of busines, this morning found everything none the worse but a little better on the commencement of the new year's activity. |
