Show Vest Corrects Himself oii Garland. Washington, March 12. It is learned today to-day that in the synopsis of Senator Vest's deposition taken privately by the members of the House Telephone Investigating Committee Com-mittee and furnished to the Associated Press by one of its members, Senator Vest was misquoted. He was reported as having said: "Mr. Garland represented to me that, in his opinion, the Bell patent was illegally obtained, and that the Pan-Electric stock might be worth some money." The stenographer's steno-grapher's notes show Senator Vest to have said: "I then conversed with Senator Garland, Gar-land, who stated to me that he had examined exam-ined the matter very thoroughly, and that he had no doubt the Pan-Eleotrio patent was a perfectly valid one." Senator Vest also said that Mr. Casey Young told him that the Bell patent had been procured by fraud. The error was caused by a member of the Committee confusing con-fusing the authorship of the statements. |
