Show TEMPLE OF HONOR The Interesting Electing Held On Wednesday Night The Temple of Honor No1 open meeting meet-ing held Wednesday evening in the lodges hall over the Deseret Bank was an unusually interesting affair Before the meeting commenced Helds cornet band played a number of airs on the street in front of the building Before the exercises began the hall was packed by people interested in the temperance cause A few minutes after 8 oclock the assembly was called to order Mr H W Folsom presiding The opening address was made by Mr J M Young The speaker spoke for half an hour in his easy emphatic style His remarks were full of good common sense contrasting the evil effects of the alcohol habits with those of temperance and sobriety The address was very attentively listened to making an impression that will serve a good purpose in strengthening the determination I deter-mination of temperately inclined people to abstain from the use of intoxicating leverages Mr J J Jennings did very 5 t 7J < r9 r J < c 1 a c nicely in singing a pretty ballad Dave Gills cornet solo was a very neat performance per-formance The humorous reading was a capital thing but altogether too lengthy for the occasion Perhaps the most pleasing feature of the programme was the duet of Mr and Miss Hillstead The lady has a pretty refreshing vocal expression ex-pression thoroughly enjoyed by the audience au-dience The presence of the Chief Templar Tem-plar of San Francisco was a surprise to the lodge His short address was very pleasing to the assembly who learned from it that his city is second to but one other on earth in crime Mr John Pauls temperance song was very acceptable accept-able The balance of the performers I acquitted themselves creditably Mr I Folsom dismissed the audience in a few wellchosen remarks and the people retired feeling that the evening had been well and profitably spent |
