Show BASE BALL New Officers Elected by the Nationals Nation-als A Probable Trip At a meeting last night of the National Base Ball Club Tom Dawson their manager man-ager of last year accepted an invitation to resume the office for the coming year Platts was elected captain and Hodge secretary and treasurer Mathias retired from the club but his vacancy was filled with an equally good man The club as it now stands consists of Platts lodge Ridd Barker 0 Spiers Tibbitts Gold inp Lloyd Busby and T Spiers The Portland Club has sent a challenge to the Nationals to play a series of seven games in Oregon They guarantee the Nationals a sum of 900 This amount however is insufficient to defray the expense I ex-pense of the trip so unless satisfactory arrangementscan be made with the railroad rail-road companies the games will most probably not come off The Nationals who have an idea of meeting outside clubs this year are practicing earnestly every day They will give the people a specimen of their skill tomorrow in a game with the Silver Grays |
