Show THE OATH MATTER We understand that fifteen thousand s thou-sand copies of the oath proposed by the Committee of the Loyal League will be distributed among the Registrars of the Territory There is no question as to the right or propriety of any organization i organiza-tion or individual to do this nor is I there any doubt that the Registrars can adopt either or formulate one each for himself provided it is in his opinion within the limitation of the law If he unlawfully deprives a person of the right i y to vote ho is liable to damages to the J person aggrieved The oath formulated by the Commission is only suggestive or advisory ana no orders were issued 10 the registration officers to adopt them They were doubtless issued with the oI t1 view to securing uniformity in the oaths administered throughout the Territory In our opinion the two oaths submitted by the Commission and the Committee fit are not sufficiently different in the obligations obliga-tions to make any material change in the number of Mormon voters that will be 11 registered In fact we do not believe that any oath could be devised either within or outside the law which would ft = not be swallowed by the Mormons to retain re-tain the political power in the Territory ft I in the hands of the priesthood The result l re-sult of the Brigham City election fully + justifies this belief |
