Show = THE QUEEN RECEIVED Her Majesty Kapiolani and Suite Arrive Ar-rive at the Depot and are Given an Oration Hundreds of People Gather Around the Train to Get a Look at the Royal Party People Pass Through the Cars and Shake the Itoyal < ller Gracious Actions Her Majesty Queen Kapiolani of the Sandwich Islands accompanied by her suite of nearly a dozen people passed through the city on this mornings eastbound east-bound D R G train Half an hour before the time for the train to arrive people began to gather at the depot Whole schools of young children chil-dren accompanied by their teachers flocked upon the platform and their number swelled by ladies and gentlemen gentle-men made a crowd of several hundred people who stood on the platform when the train pulled up The royal party occupied a handsome Pullman sleeper in the middle of the train and as the cars stopped the crowd gathered around the coach eager to get a glance at the Queen a line was formed in the rear car and quite a number num-ber passed through the coach to shake the royal hand The Queen received them all with a gracious smile in recognition recog-nition of the courtesies shown her While the train was in the depot Helds band was stationed in the park near the platform and dispensed National airs in a creditable manner Her Majesty the Queen is a lady of about 50 years of age She is an agreeable agree-able and womanly looking Queen with the characteristic features of her race Her Royal Highness the Princess Lilino kalui a sister of the King is somewhat older than the Queen being noticeable notice-able for her snowy white hair General J 0 Dominio is a handsome hand-some and agreeable man only about 35 years of age tall and stout and with a decidedly prepossessing manner His Excellency G P lankea is an old and slender man with a pleasant manner Colonel J H Boyd aidedecamp to General Dominio is a man of about 30 stout and well formed wearing a uniform uni-form similar to that worn in the United States navy Besides these there are several maids and servants about whom there is nothing noticeable Princess Lilinokalaui General Dom inio and Colonel Boyd all speak English perfectly well but the Queen does not possess this accomplishment When asked for ihformation about the party by our reporter Colonel Boyd very kindly wrote the names of the suite in a bold American business hand and was otherwise courteous As the train pulled out of the depot the band played Yankee Doodle and Her Majesty waived her handkerchief from the car window to the crowd on the platform The Queen expressed herself as much pleased with what she had seen of our country and particularly delighted with the unexpected reception she received here It is her intention to stop over in this city on her return across the continent conti-nent A number of Mormon dignitaries went to Ogden this morning and rode back to the city with the party Among these were Mayor Armstrong Delegate Caine the Board of Aldermen and many others |
