Show 6 MAY WHITES TRIAL The Testimony Against the Girl Almost Finished May White alias Big May charged with adultery was on trial in the Third District Court this afternoon The defendant entered a plea of not guilty and a jury was easily empaneled JudgelDusenberry of Provowas called and said that he thought he recognized the defendant as the one who came to him as May Jensen and was married to Joseph White Excused Joseph Barlow of the police force testified tes-tified to going to the City Hotel with Policeman Pickett and Big Belle on the 9th of April last When he entered he found Miss White there hut did nnt see anyone else there at that time When Miss White opened the door she had only her chemise on When I reached the doer I went to strike a match and Miss White ran out and around the house I followed her up and we stopped at a door on the east side and waited there until the door was opened Then we went in I then went to her room for her clothes The second time I went to the room I turned up the light and saw a man named Frank Engler stooping down behind tho bed lIe had no coat on and I believe no vest The bed clothes were thrown back over the foot of tho bed and it looked as though it had been occupied The marriage certificate was taken from her when she was searched in the police office The Salt Lake House is reputed to he a house of illfame To defense Engler got away while wo were after Miss White we did not send Engler there we did not know who was in the house when we went there it was our intention to hold En gler Excused Matthew Pickett also a policeman corroborated cor-roborated the testimony of Barlow In regard to Englers escape he said there was so much running about that they could not keep track of him Joseph Burt also of the police force gave more corroborative evidence Ho also said that he heard her admit that night that she was married and that the man in bed with her was not her hus band Policeman Jacobs who was along with Burt made his statemenL and was excused ex-cused Other corroborative evidence was introduced in-troduced and the prrsecntion then rested |
