Show Celebrate The Art of Service Utah Service S mp Call for Entries The Thayne Center for Service Learning at Salt Lake Community College invites Salt Lake Community College students to celebrate service to the community through creativity and art All students at are eligible as well as Ameri National Corps S tate N and members to participate in the second annual Utah Service Symposium The symposium is an annual annual annual annu annu- al opportunity for creative service-minded service college students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents and members members members mem mem- bers from across the state to share their reflections on giving giving giving ing service to the community The symposium is a great opportunity for students enrolled in service-learning service classes to submit reflections based on their experiences Entrants may share their service reflections in five categories categories categories cat cat- personal narrative short creative nonfiction creative writing poetry and fiction visual arts painting sculpture photography etc performing arts dance video music etc and documentary arts video slide show etc Getting involved is easy Simply pick up an entry form fonn and guidelines from the Thayne Center or visit to download printable forms Entries are due to the Thayne Center by February 1 2005 A panel of reviewers will select exemplary projects to receive Jurys Jury's Choice and Honorable Mention tion Jurys Jury's Choice recipients in each category will receive All those who submit accepted work will have their entries published in The Artof Artof Art Artof of Service book and are invited but not required to host minute 30 interactive workshops about their reflections reflections reflections at the Utah Service Symposium on April 5 2005 The Utah Service Symposium is a wonderful opportunity for college students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents and members members members mem mem- bers to share their tales of service service service ser ser- vice says Betsy Ward chair of the Utah Service Symposium and director of the Thayne Center for Service Learning at Salt Lake Community College Their creative works will reflect the impact of service in their lives and our community and inspire others to engage in service for years to come In addition to the interactive interactive interactive tive presentations by entrants the symposium program will feature presentations by Jurys Jury's Choice and Honorable Mention recipients a showcase showcase showcase show show- case highlighting the best of performing and documentary arts entries and a gallery where participants may view the symposium visual art entries and meet the artists All symposium events are free and open to the public The Utah Service Symposium is sponsored by bythe bythe bythe the Thayne Center for Service Learning at Salt Lake Community College in partnership partnership partnership part part- with Learn Serve America and Utah Campus Compact For more information call or visit |
