| Show Reminiscing the campus days of old Cyndi Ainge News Editor didn't start out with a large and S elaborate buildings It has taken years of hard work and dedication by numerous devoted people According to the book The First 30 years A History o of f Utah Technical College at Salt Lake written by Jay L. L Nelson legislation passed in 1959 appropriated for a new site for Salt Lake Trade Technical Institute which had previously been located at South and East In the early 72 acres were purchased at South Redwood Road During the next twelve years additional additional additional addi addi- appropriations were made increasing the size of the campus to acres At that time a tentative layout included included included in in- six buildings which were considered the first phase of campus development Among those buildings would be the administration building and all the different trade buildings such as auto mechanics and machine shops At this time estimated costs for all of phase one was 32 million The first building to be completed was the heating plant which stood idle for three years while other buildings building's were being planned and constructed It wasn't until 1967 that the administrative offices and eight departments began ing Approximately students started that spring quarter In May 1967 the Metals building was completed with the Automotive building following the next year The Calvin L.
