Show Pumping plant bid goes to SLC firm Layton Construction Company was awarded the bid to construct the pumping plant for the Great Salt Lake West Desert Pumping Project. The Salt Lake City based firm was the lew bidder for the project at $7,808,177. The project was estimated esti-mated to cost $12.9 million. Pumping plant construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 18, the date Southern Pacific Transportation Transporta-tion Company will finish an access road to the plant site on the east side of Hogup Ridge. The west desert pumping project will take water from the north arm of the lake through an intake canal to the pumping plant. Water will then be lifted 23 feet and discharged dis-charged into an outlet canal. Water will, naturally flow from the canal to the evaporation pond, which is west and south of the Newfoundland Newfound-land Mountains. Pumping of the lake is scheduled to begin February 1987. In the first year, it is estimated the lake will decrease by 13 inches. |
